Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has joined hands with personal computer major Dell to offer 3G wireless mobility solution on the latter’s select range of laptops and netbooks.
Under the agreement between the two, Dell would make available MTNL-offered products through its distribution channels in Mumbai and Delhi.
Dell’s select range of laptops and netbooks would provide the services like an embedded 3G Ericsson module with GPS, and MTNL SIM plus an MTNL 3G pre-paid mobile broadband data package with national roaming facility.
This solution eliminates the need to use an additional USB modem (or dongle) to connect to the web, and by having an embedded modem, customers will experience a seamless ‘always-on’ experience with greater stability and data speeds on the network.
“By making the internet easier to access and easier to afford, this partnership will fast-track the growth of India’s online population while opening up new business frontiers in content development and e-commerce,” MTNL chairman and managing director R S P Sinha said in the release.
The bundled service is initially being made available at an estimated base price of Rs30,000, starting with Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10 netbook.
MTNL’s 3G service boasts of high-speed internet access with download speeds of 3.6Mbps – the fastest commercially available in India.
