On2 Technologies is to be acquired by Google in $106.5 million

Today, there is big news of acquiring On2 technologies by Google. Every news papers are on the way of this news. “Google to acquire On2 technologies”, “Google Acquires On2 technologies”, “Google buys On2 technologies” or “Google to buy On2 technologies” all news are saying same news that On2 technologies is to be acquired by Google in $106.5 million.

Yes, it is a big deal by Google after Microsoft and Yahoo search deal. Google is also making strong itself to beat its competitors. It is one of the biggest deals which carry $106.5 million currency. About the deal Google writes in press releases,

Blekko is the next Google Search Challenger?

Rich Skrenta, who created the first computer virus (Elk Cloner), co-founded the Open Directory Project, and co-founded online news site Topix, may have bitten off the biggest challenge of his career – taking on Google. In search.

Skrenta left Topix last June. He started his new company, Blekko, almost immediately, along with five others from the Topix core team. They raised $2 million in seed funding in September from Baseline Ventures, two early Googlers (David DesJardins and Jeremy Wenokur), and the founding team.

The company is still deep in stealth and, apparently, working out of a garage in true startup style (see image below). (more…)

Google Chrome OS

Google Chrome OS – Google announced a new project that’s a natural extension of Google Chrome, the Google Chrome Operating System.
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year Google will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because Google already talking to partners about the project, and Google will soon be working with the open source community.

Google’s vision towards the Google Chromes Operating system is about Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. Google is  designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds.
